You go to your annual appointment with your doctor. Routine labs will probably be offered. Depending on your age, this may include a cholesterol check. Depending on the result of that test, you may be told you have high cholesterol and ‘need’ to take a statin medicine.
This is based on some established guidelines. Have you ever wondered exactly who it is that decides these guidelines? What would you think if you knew that half of the doctors who wrote the 2013 guidelines had ties to the drug companies that make statins?
John Abramson MD says, “It tells me that the guidelines are written by people who have an approach to preventing cardiovascular disease that is consistent with the goals of the drug companies.”
[My translation: To create customers.]
Have you heard of Lipitor? I bet you have.
Lipitor has been called “the most profitable drug in history”.
Have you ever wondered if your cholesterol numbers can be too low? How might that affect you?
“Studies showing too little cholesterol increases risk for cancer, brain issues, and other serious illnesses.” ~Sharyl Attkisson, Full Measure, November 4, 2018, Statin Wars
I know I am asking a lot of questions in this piece, because I feel that clearly more discussion is needed. Who is that man behind the curtain, anyway? The road to informed consent is paved with thoughtfully asked and truthfully answered questions. What if the truthfully answered questions you get conflict? That’s when you get to decide who it is that is actually telling the truth. One way to do that is to see who stands to receive great personal, especially financial, gain from the treatment plan they are recommending to you? Maybe it never occurred to you that your doctor could possible have a financial incentive to recommend a treatment or medicine to you.
In my opinion, it should.
Watch this video and then decide for yourself which of these two doctors, Dr. John Abramson or Dr. Jennifer Robinson, sounds like the truth teller in this situation,

Very thought provoking, thank you!
Thanks, Diane. I’m so glad you think so!
Let’s have MORE impolite conversations!!
Bravo Dr. Abramson!
Thanks Karen; well done!
That’s exactly right, Jody! We have to stand up and talk about these issues because once we know the truth, we can’t un-know it!
