Welcome to this month’s BRAVE Interview with Brenna Threatt!
Hi! I’m Brenna Threatt, the blogger behind The Great Wide Somewhere!
I started my blog because I love to travel and write. I’ve had incredible adventures while traveling and those experiences have convinced me that everyone should get out and explore the world.
Travel brings so many life lessons and unforgettable experiences.
I’ve been able to meet people around the world and have learned that everyone has a story to share. It saddens me that so many people miss out on opportunities like this. I hope that my blog inspires people to travel and gives them the confidence necessary to create life-changing memories.
Even though I love to travel, it can be intimidating. A couple of years ago, when I was newer to traveling, I had my first solo trip. I was heading to South Africa to volunteer at a children’s home I had been to with a group previously. This was already intimidating, but additionally, I had a layover for the whole day in London. I had always wanted to visit London and decided to use the layover time to explore the city. In order to do this, I had to figure out what I wanted to see and how to navigate the Tube (London’s Metro) to get there. This was something I was determined to do, but it was still intimidating.
It didn’t all go smoothly.
I went through the wrong line at security and had to be escorted through restricted areas in order to get to the Tube. This was so stressful and may have resulted in a quick bathroom cry. 😉 But I did it.
I found my way to the Tube and headed into the city. When the train transitioned from the tunnel to the city above, I saw iconic English homes.
In that moment, it struck me: I was in London, on the Tube, living what I had dreamt about for so long.
I loved that day in the city. I actually loved it so much that I did it again the next two times I had a layover in London. I learned from that first time and because I took that first step of faith, I had so much more confidence in my next visits. I actually had so much confidence that I had someone stop me on the street to ask me for directions!
I’m so glad that I moved past my fears and bravely explored London (seethegreatwidesomewhere.com/
This experience was one of the moments that encouraged me to start a travel blog.
I want to inspire other people to have their own brave moments; to move beyond their fears and start getting all that life has to offer.
In addition to my blog, I also have travel planning services. Find them here: seethegreatwidesomewhere.com/
I’m so thankful for my moments of bravery.
I’m thankful for the opportunities I’ve been given to see more of the world and learn from the people with whom I interact. I hope that my stories inspire you! I would love to have you join me at The Great Wide Somewhere. Learn from my tips, travel vicariously through my stories, and get the support needed to travel on your own!

I just love your honestly in this post. We have all been there but may not have shared so deeply! There is nothing like that magic moment when you it strikes you that you are in some amazing, foreign country doing something awesome. Lead the way!!
I agree, Debbie! I had just finished spending two days agonizing over whether I should try to figure out how to get from A to B in NYC and how intimidated by it all I was when I found Brenna’s blog. I loved how she ‘felt the fear’ and did it anyway!
Yes, it’s such a great feeling when you realize that you overcame something and now you’re doing something incredible! I want to share that with others because it’s such a great feeling!
