My husband and I celebrated 32 years of marriage this month.

We decided to go to Calzolaio Pasta Company in Wilton, Maine.

As of today, we have been together over 34 years, but we almost never met.

At the time, I was working as a restaurant manager. I was happy where I was, but my store location was closing and I needed to take a new store.  The one that was offered to me was one that I had no interest in taking over. None. Zero. What I discovered was that the company had zero interest in my feelings about it. It was that store or I was out of a job.

I told them I would go but would only stay for one year.

Well, it didn’t take that long! I had only been there a short time when I met him. I saw him through the window of the restaurant as he pulled up in his red Jeep and I said, “Who’s that?”

It was my future husband, that’s who.

In hindsight, I realized that The Universe had to drag me kicking and screaming to this job at this location so that I could meet the man who became the love of my life. It is very unlikely that we would ever have met otherwise.

So this year, we celebrated how we were so lucky to have met, our wedding anniversary, and to all of our years together.

I know we will have many more years to come.

How do you celebrate special days in your relationships?

I made a slideshow of the wonderful food we ate that night, all of which I am sure has contributed to us living well because as they say on their website:

“Chi mangia bene, vive bene”

“Who eats well, lives well”
