The Holistic Practitioner Interview #5 September 2018: Chris Ann: Crystal Healing and more

After a year I found a office space in a medical building that has worked out beautifully for seeing my clients. I call this time in my life, as … jumping off the cliff. Looking back, I had no idea what I was getting myself into, I had no idea if I would be able to support myself financially, or if anyone would be interested in receiving reflexology.
The first couple of years I educated my community, or anyone that would listen about the benefits of reflexology. Reflexology is one of those modalities I have found that can be challenging to explain, and one needs to experience to truly understand the benefits. I believe reflexology has opened the door for me to help people feel better, body mind and spirit. It has led me on a path to learning more holistic healing’s to bring to my practice to help my clients. I am forever grateful for hearing that “word” while enjoying my personal favorite place on earth.
Reiki is a philosophy of life, a conceptual framework for experiencing your world. Just for today, don’t get angry. If you do feel anger, examine that feeling. Then release it, and any patterns that no longer serve you. Forgive, love, experience gratitude. Don’t worry. Have faith in the workings of the universe. Those are two of our guiding principles.
One thing I love about Reiki is that it happens everywhere, all the time. To get into my Reiki head, I stop. I breathe, center myself, and drop into the flow of the universe. I sense pulsations of energy around me.
1. WHO are you?
Even as little as a year ago, I would have answered the question “Who are you?” in as little as four words, “I am an acupuncturist.” I would have been proud, because I love what I do, but I wouldn’t have given my simplistic answer a second thought. Now, I realize that I am so much more, we all are.
I am a free spirit who delights in many things, and the more I get to know myself the more I realize that there are many aspects that make up a person that extend beyond career path. To simply call myself an acupuncturist doesn’t seem fitting, rather acupuncture is the work I choose that allows me to freely and naturally express my true nature.
First, Karen, my dear sweet friend and devoted student of ten years (has it really been that long???), let me say congratulations on the new book and platform. I’m thrilled to be here discussing yoga for your new Honor Your Health series.
My name is Kristen Conley Leighton and I am a passionate yoga practitioner, dreamer, and storyteller.
I’ve been practicing yoga since 1994 and teaching it since 2005.
It seems like one of those happy accidents. I had questions—big questions—especially after my first true yoga teacher put The Bhagavad Gita in my hands. Several long conversations later, she encouraged me to sign up for a teacher training. Even thouhg I had no desire to teach, she assured me that I’d get answers to many of my questions. It seemed an odd place for me to be; after all, I was essentially kicked out of my very first yoga class (politely asked not to bring my anxious, hard-charging ass back). I’d spent ten years wandering in and out of different yoga classes, devouring the book, Light on Yoga, and practicing with Rodney Yee on VHS tapes (remember those?) when I timidly entered my first teacher training with Stephanie Keach in Asheville, North Carolina.
Every month I will interview a different Holistic Health Practitioner about what they do, how they do it, and anything else they would like to share with you.
