Please enjoy this month’s interview with Jody Breton, Essence of Spirit Ceremonies!

After many years in the medical field as a Respiratory Care Practitioner I retired to follow my passion for Shamanism.

Studying with indigenous peoples since the 90’s as well as western practitioners from the Foundation for Shamanic Studies and the Center for Earthlight Healing and others, I have been immersed in the practice of Shamanism for several decades. My deep connection and relationship with Nature and to the Spirit of ALL informs my life path and my holistic health practice for myself and others.

Shamanism is an ancient system of wisdom addressing the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of self, the community and of Earth and beyond.

This wisdom is inherent throughout all cultures across the globe and has been practiced for over 50,000 years. The recent resurgence of Shamanism is in response to an awakening to our deeper connections to the web of life, to the mysteries of the unseen realms and from the calling of our ancestors, our earthly relatives in nature and the collective consciousness for healing on all levels.

Using the sound of a drum or a rattle, the shaman enters into a quiet state like a meditation; called a shamanic journey, to meet with their compassionate spirit helpers whom they have a close relationship with. The shaman will journey to seek wisdom to answer questions on the behalf of themselves or others about their lives and for healing physical, mental or emotional bodies. While in the journey state the shaman may provide a variety of healing practices such as a Power Animal retrieval.

Imagine yourself in a relaxed position either sitting up or laying down; a warm blanket may cover you, pillows support your head and under your knees perhaps. Your eyes are closed. You’ve been invited by the shaman to let your imagination take you to a place that you are familiar with and you feel relaxed when you visit there. Once settled and comfortable you begin to hear the sound of a drum beat. Soon you feel yourself completely at ease and you may even fall asleep! After a period of time that you will have no real sense of but is generally about 25 minutes you will be gently awoken to awareness. The shaman offers you a glass of water.  The shaman will then share with you the messages that they received from their helping spirits and the healing that may have been offered on your behalf. You feel enlivened and may have many questions; eager to go forth with a new perspective knowing that you are empowered and have the tools to continue to enrich your life.

Jody is also an Ordained Interfaith Chaplain, Celebrant and Ceremonialist. She officiates all Life Celebrations and will create a beautiful ceremony for any occasion.
