Envision your new year

Consider making a vision board, or collage, or SoulCollage (TM) card for 2016.  If you have chosen a word for this year, you may want to incorporate this into your project in some way, either by putting the actual word in your work, or choosing images that evoke the feeling that your word gives you when you think about it.

There are many ways to get images for free or very inexpensively:

  1. Old magazines from the library, or from a dentist’s or doctor’s office.
  2. The Dollar Store sometimes has inexpensive books that have interesting images in them.
  3. Old calendars are also often a good source. I found a horse calendar from the feed store that was full of beautiful pictures of horses.
  4. You can print images from your computer, including your personal photos, if you would like to use them.

These are just some ideas to get you going.

What can you create for yourself in 2016?

FULL DISCLOSURE: I have not yet done my vision board for 2016! A friend who is also having trouble getting hers done mentioned that Mercury has been retrograde…aha! It’s not my fault! I have cut out many images and bought a lovely blue poster board, but that’s it.  The photo here is of last year’s board. Keep reading

Bright idea

I love my crystal spheres, but one thing about spheres is…they roll. I was looking for a way to stabilize them. I was using a bubble wrap nest and a tissue paper nest for the two that I was working with, but wasn’t satisfied.

Then I was burning a candle with the lid off to the side of my desk where my crystal was, and I was trying to make room to work. Then, in a pairing as serendipitous as chocolate and peanut butter, they met up!

This works great! The plastic stabilizes them and prevents scratches. They don’t take up much space! Keep reading

A new crystal for 2016

As 2015 drew to a close, I was thinking of ways to commemorate the coming new year when I had the thought that I needed to ‘get a beautiful piece of Aqua Aura’.

My first reaction was, ‘Oh, Aqua Aura. That’s nice.’ I didn’t take any action on it. I merely acknowledged the thought and continued on my way.

Except the thought did not. It stayed with me, whispering in my ear at odd moments. ‘Get a beautiful piece of Aqua Aura’.

So, on New Year’s Day, I did. I visited my wonderful friend Sue at Zen and Company.  I explained my mission. She immediately arranged several pieces of Aqua Aura on a tray for me to get to know better. Keep reading

Give it up

I was at Holy Yoga this morning and our (awesome) teacher gave us a

task: write your worries down on a post it note.  Anything you are worrying about is ‘not putting food on the table’ (I believe I am paraphrasing Susan the teacher who was quoting Max Lucado here).

We were literally going to give our worries away,  give them over to God or The Universe.

I didn’t have to think very long before I started writing my list-yes. List.

Hello. My name is Karen, and I am a Worrier.

After that was done, Susan invited us to come up and drop the notes into a bag at the front of the class before we left. She would take them and then (No! Not read them! She promised not to!) shred them. Keep reading

My One Word: A spiritual practice

I chose the word Brave this year as my one word.

Brave

Here is a list of things I accomplished (just off the top of my head) in 2015 so far that I would not have if I not chosen this word:

  • Got on an airplane for the first time since 1989
  • Let two (non family members) read the draft of my first novel
  • Created a Pecha Kucha slideshow which I presented to a group of about 200 people at show in Kennebunkport (did I mention that I am terrified of public speaking?)
  • Volunteered at The Dempsey Challenge in the Reiki Tent
  • Created my website and Facebook page to get my business started
  • Made some videos and posted them to a work-in-progress YouTube channel and then gave a small group of people access to (gasp!) view them

This is not a complete list. I am sure the moment that I post this I will think of dozens other Brave Things I have done this year, but so what? The point is that my life is different less than one year later because I chose this word.
