I’ve been writing about the practice of choosing one word to focus on for the entire year for over a decade now. I write about and I do it.

The book My One Word by Mike Ashcraft and Rachel Olsen describes the practice. Check it out if you are interested in finding out more about it.

Alternatively, you could visit the My One Word website and learn more that way. I have shared these resources before and I still refer to them from time to time.

My past words have been:

2010: Breathe

2011: Edit

2012: Focus

2013: Create

2014: Write

2015: Brave

2016: Grace

2017: Channel

2018: Clarity

2019: Change

2020: Faith

2021: Align

2022: Confident

This year, I tried a new method of finding my word. I had several contenders present themselves to me over the past 3 months [joy, capable, balance, focus], but none stopped me in my tracks. I have been working the Whispering Woods card deck that my friend Donna gave me this past summer. I pulled the same card twice in a row, several days apart, and the third time I used the deck to pull a card for someone else, this same card was at the bottom of the deck.

The third time was the charm and I made my decision.

My word for 2023 is:

CLEARING

What about you? Will you be choosing a word to focus on for 2023?
