Owls!
I am not sure when it happened, but at some point I realized that owls have special meaning to me. I love it when I notice them, and even more when they notice me.
My husband and I took advantage of the Owl Prowl Series offered by The Center for Wildlife in York, Maine. About 35 people of all ages showed up for this talk even though it was only in the 30’s outside.
Lesson: Love of owls trumps cold weather.
It was held in a covered area, but we were still outside. I wished I had put on long underwear and that I had double-socked. Some people brought towels or blankets to sit on (those wood benches were cold!) but most of us just sucked it up and then forgot about the cold once the talk began and the ‘Owl Ambassadors’ came out to meet us. (Okay, full disclosure–my husband gave up his gloves for me to sit on … my bum was cold!!! 🙂 )
The obstacle is the way
I used to be very active. Even though the closest studio was a bit of a hike for me to get to, I went to yoga several times a week. It wasn’t always an easy class, either, but I went.
Practicing yoga is one of my favorite ways to exercise, but somehow, I got a way from it. A series of small things occurred, not the least of which was my favorite yoga teacher (Kristen! I miss you!) moved several states away. And the less I exercised, the more I ate.
The more I ate, the smaller my yoga clothes got.
And the smaller my yoga clothes got, the less I wanted to go to yoga.
BOOK REVIEW: Be the Gift by Ann Voskamp
Be the Gift: Let Your Broken Be Turned into Abundance by Ann Voskamp
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book is filled with lovely quotes and photos. It has a list of ideas on the back of the book that you can use to be a GIFT (Give it Forward Today) to others. Some of them are truly inspired and most are very easy to do. There are also some note cards with beautiful imagery in the back of the book.
My One Word 2019
I’ve talked about the spiritual practice of My One Word every year for many years, and this year is no different. Usually I am writing about it (it’s even in my most recent book, Honor Your Health, Chapter 19!) but this year I tried something different. I gave talks and workshops about it. I have challenged others to engage in this powerful process for themselves.
Often a word shows up to the party long after I have already ‘chosen’ my word. For 2019, a mere two days away, I had my word all picked out, and now it’s not that. This is actually the second time this happened this year! My list of contenders included:
The two most powerful words
The two most powerful words you can say are these:
I AM
Last year, my friend Melissa Boyd introduced me to a song that embodies this idea in such a beautiful way! I want to share it with you all.
“I am the light of my soul. I am beautiful. I am bountiful. I am bliss.”
I hope you will give yourself the less than three minutes it takes to watch and listen to this video right now. Start with a drop or two of essential oil (may I suggest Rosemary for clarity and remembrance?) on a cotton ball or tissue to engage all of your senses!
